Cocoa Celebrates Florida City Government Week with Open House Event October 24th
Event aims to inform residents of the impact of local government.
The City of Cocoa will be joining cities across the state in celebrating Florida City Government Week from October 23-29, 2017 by hosting an informative Open House event on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 4-6pm prior to the regularly scheduled City Council Meeting that evening beginning at 6:00pm. The event will feature table-top displays from each of the City Departments to showcase the services provided to our residents. There will be special giveaways at the event and a chance for each of our residents to creatively display what they love about their city.
Because city government is the government closest to most citizens, and the one with the most direct daily impact upon its residents, it is important that residents understand how their city operates, the services it provides, and the importance of their active involvement. The theme My City: I’m Part of It, I’m Proud of It will guide this year’s activities.
“We are excited about Florida City Government Week and hope to engage our residents by showcasing our department responsibilities and how they can get more involved in city activities,” said Mayor Henry Parrish. “This is an opportunity to help our residents become more informed about the many services we provide, which will lead to more knowledgeable citizen participation in the future.”
Events planned for the week include the Open House event on Tuesday, October 24th and City of Cocoa trivia throughout the week on our social media feeds.
Florida City Government Week, sponsored by the Florida League of Cities, is a time to showcase cities and recognize the significant role played by city government in the lives of its citizens. The League is the official organization of the municipal governments in Florida, designed and established to meet and serve the needs of Florida’s cities and their citizens.
