The Studios of Cocoa Beach announces the featured artist for the month of October r, Eyca Moticska.. A native of Caracas, Venezuela, Eyca has lived in Merritt Island since 1997. She apprenticed with Greg Wooten in 2003 and began her own business in 2006. In 2010 she partnered with Harry Guthrie Phillips at their pottery sculpture studio and gallery in Cocoa Village. With his influence she incorporated sea life into her pieces and increased her love for marine sculpture
Eyca sketches her ideas then throws them on the wheel, trims, combines, decorates, bisque fires, glazes, and glaze fires at 2400 degrees. Her functional pieces are safe and durable and can be used in the oven, microwave and dishwasher. Self taught, she has learned to incorporate glass in the pottery. Her sculptural pieces, which have to be seen to appreciate the detail and complexity, often feature three dimensional images of creatures floating in a colorful sea.
One of Eyca’s ceramic candle holders with a carved palm tree motif will be the prize in the Studio’s monthly giveaway. To enter this free drawing, visit the Studios any day in October.
Eyca’s work can be seen daily at the Studios of Cocoa Beach, 165 Minuteman Causeway in downtown Cocoa Beach. The nonprofit gallery features 25 artists and offers a full schedule of workshops in a variety of techniques for both adults and children. The Studio is open Monday and Tuesday 10:30am-3:30 pm, Wednesday through Saturday 10:30 am-8pm and Sunday 11 am to 4 pm.
