Brevard Heritage Council (BHC) is holding an Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate their new headquarters at City Point Community Center. The center, is located on the Indian River Lagoon, at 3783 N. Indian River Dr., Cocoa. The public is invited to the Friday, February 18th Open House. It will be from 4 to 6 pm with the ribbon cutting ceremony at 4:30.
Built in 1885 and placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1995, City Point is an outstanding example of an early period in Brevard?s history. It has served our citizens as a school, voting station, traveling performers? theater and WW II observation tower. The City Point building was the beginning congregation for at least seven local churches, many which are thriving today. In 1979 the property was donated to Brevard County and became the Environmental Field Station for the Natural Resources Management Office.
Established in 1989 the BHC has become Brevard?s largest non-profit historical preservation organization. Among their annual activities are the Holiday Historical Home Tour, and the juried, banner award presentations, for outstanding preservation of Brevard?s historical buildings in May.
With City Point as the new home, the Brevard Heritage Council will be able to expand its? educational and resource capabilities for all Brevard County. Membership is open to all.
